Safeguarding Policy
Updated: 3 November 2026
I am committed to providing a safe, respectful service and taking appropriate action to protect people from abuse, neglect and serious harm.
Although I work with adults, safeguarding concerns may relate to clients, other adults at risk, or children and young people mentioned during our work.
Responding to concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises, I will assess the circumstances, listen carefully and discuss appropriate next steps with you wherever possible and safe. In couples work, this includes considering domestic abuse, coercive control and whether joint sessions are appropriate.
I may seek advice from my clinical supervisor or relevant safeguarding services. Where necessary and legally justified, I may share relevant information with appropriate services, including social care, health professionals or the police. Urgent action will not be delayed while seeking supervision.
Confidentiality
Our work is confidential, subject to the limits explained in our working agreement and privacy notice. Safeguarding does not automatically mean information will be disclosed.
Where disclosure is necessary, I will share only relevant information and normally discuss this with you beforehand, unless doing so would increase risk or prevent necessary protective action. I will record concerns, decisions and the reasons for any action taken.
Raising a concern
You can raise a safeguarding concern during a session or email hello@alexandratarr.com. If your concern relates to my conduct and you would prefer independent advice, you can contact BACP.
Please be aware that therapeutic counselling is not an emergency service, and emails / phone messages are not always monitored. If you need to speak to someone urgently, please contact an emergency service, A&E, a GP, or helpline (e.g. Samaritans (116123/www.samaritans.org).
